It was an exciting night in CAF Confederations Cup matches with 12 goals scored across six games as Etoile Sahel, Young Africans, Medeama SC, Al Ahly Tripoli, Kawkab de Marrakech and FUS Rabat moved into the last eight of the competition.
The last eight teams will now be drawn into two groups of four with the top two from each group going into the semifinals.
Louis Ameka Autchanga scored the only goal of the game for Gabonese side CF Mounana as they beat Etoile Sahel of Tunisia 1-0 at home.
However, despite the win on Wednesday, CF Mounana exited the competition. Etoile Sahel progressed to the next stage of the cup tournament 2-1 on aggregate after winning the first leg in Tusnia 2-0 two weeks ago.
Love Kabungula scored the only goal of the game for Angolan side GD Sagrada Esperanca as they beat Young Africans of Ghana 1-0 at home
However, despite the win on Wednesday, GD Sagrada Esperanca exited the competition. Young Africans progressed to the next stage of the cup tournament 2-1 on aggregate after winning the first leg in Tusnia 2-0 two weeks ago.
On a negative note, Young Africans did finish the game with ten men after Nadir Ali was sent off in the 80th minute.
Goals from Malik Akowush and Bernard Ofori handed Ghanaian side Medeama SC a crucial 2-0 win over Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa.
The win for Medeama SC sees them progress into the next stage of the Confederation Cup on the away goals rule as the two leg tie ended 3-3 on aggregate following Sundowns’ 3-1 win at home two weeks ago.
On a negative note Sundowns ended the game with only ten men after Dennis Onyango was shown a red card on the hour mark.
Egyptian side Misr Elmaqash exited the competition on the away goals rule after drawing 1-1 against Al Ahly Tripoli of Libya at home. The first leg ended goalless in Libya, allowing Al Ahly Tripoli to progress.
An early goal and a late goal handed Moroccan side Kawkab de Marrakech a place in the next round of the Confederations Cup after beating Al Merreikh of Sudan 2-0 on Wednesday night.
That result combined with their 1-0 loss in the first leg to Al Merreikh means the side from Morocco progressed 2-1 on aggregate.
Moroccan side FUS Rabat cruised into the last eight of the cup competition with an emphatic 4-0 win over a ten man Stade Malien side of Mali, with the aggregate score also 4-0 after the first leg a couple of weeks ago ended goalless.
