Confederation of African Football (CAF) is set to increase the subventions for all the 54 footbal federations in Africa this despite the record deficit ($ 17.7 million) announced last year at the 40th General Assembly in Cairo and the global pandemic of Covid-19, the African Football Confederations (CAF) are not experiencing the crisis.
After anticipating the payment of annual grants to member associations and bonuses for participation in clubs involved in the Champions League and the CAF Cup, President Ahmad Ahmad is preparing to offer, today by videoconference, a new gift to 54 federations worth $300,000 per federation the president of CAF, is considering increasing the annual subsidies paid to member associations.
Already in April 2019, The Executive Committee unanimously endorsed the decision to double the grant allocated by CAF to the National Associations which are affiliated with it and which goes from $ 100,000 to $ 200,000.
When President Ahmad Ahmad was a candidate for the presidency of CAF, he had promised to increase this grant to $ 100,000, including $ 20,000 for the expenses of FA presidents alone.
several EXCO members have shared their reservation silently on the increase of the subventions considering the state of finances at CAF but due to pressure and intimidation they will still vote to pass the resolutions presented by the president.
One year before the Elective General Assembly, this new increase is seen by many as a new electoral gift for FA Presidents to ensure they vote wisely next year to bring back Ahmad Ahmad as President.
Another announcement expected by Ahmad Ahmad, the establishment of interest-free loans for member federations.
FIFA had announced the establishment of such a mechanism for its 211 member associations and $2 million to each confederation with another $4 million that CAF can borrow as loans meaning the confederation will basically borrow the money and channel the same to the 54 federations.
