The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have revealed the new dates for the Champions League and Confederation Cup semi-finals.
The 2019/2020 inter-club competitions were set to end by the end of the current month as the semi-finals and finals were scheduled to be played in September and October.
Four of these encounters were set to take place in Morocco as they have four teams representing them including Wydad Casablanca, Raja Casablanca, RS Berkane and HUSA.
However as coronavirus cases continue to increase in Morocco, CAF have decided to postpone the dates of the matches, subsequently affecting the dates for the upcoming season.
Instead of being played between September 25th and October 3rd, the CAF Champions League semis will be played between October 17th and October 24th with the final taking place on November 6th.
As for the Confederation Cup, the games will be held on October 19th and 20th with the final taking place on the 25th of the same month, postponing it for nearly one month.
As a result the registration periods for the 2020/2021 campaign have changed, compared to CAF’s final schedule released just over one week ago.
The 1st registration period is between October 21st and November 10th, the 2nd registration period will be between November 11th and November 30th.
Meanwhile, Preliminary round will be held between the 27th and 29th of November and the 4th 6th of December. Finally, the 2nd Preliminary round will be held between the 22nd 23rd of December and the 5th and6th of January 2021.
Africa’s football governing body have also announced that the bids for many highly awaited continental competitions have now been opened namely for the 2021 and 2022 Women’s Champions League, the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, the CAF Champions League Final (2021, 2022 and 2023) and the CAF Confederation Cup Final (2021, 2022 and 2023).
