Four Caf officials are in Rwanda to evaluate Rwanda’s preparations for Chan 2016 set for January 16-February 7. The tournament will attract 16 countries from across the continent.
Caf Competitions Director Shereen Arafa, Tarek El Deeb (Caf IT Director), Salomon Binyam (Caf Media Director) and Iman Said (Caf Marketing Officer) will inspect among many other facilities – the four host stadiums, training stadiums, hotels, security and transport details.
They will visit the four host stadiums including Amahoro and Kigali regional Stadiums in Kigali, Huye Stadium in the south and Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu.
They will also visit training facilities next to the aforementioned stadiums including the FERWAFA Ground next to Amahoro Stadium, KIST Stadium in Kigali, Kamena Stadium in Huye and another stadium under construction next to the Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu.
The Local Organising Committee (LOC) spokesman, Emmanuel Bugingo, also the Director of Sports at the Ministry of Sports and Culture, said: “This is an ideal moment for us to update Caf on our preparations because we are on the right track.”
The Chan tournament is designed exclusively for players who feature in their domestic leagues. The first edition was held in 2009 in Ivory Coast with Democratic Republic of Congo emerging winners.
Tunisia were crowned champions at the 2011 edition in Sudan while Libya won last year’s edition in South Africa after beating Ghana 4-3 on penalties in Cape Town.
