CAF second vice president and the president of the DR Congo FA (FECOFA) Constant Omari Sulemani together with his two vice presidents Roger Bondembe Bokanianga and Theobald Binamungu were Tuesday arrested and placed in custody at Kinshasa’s Matete Public Prosecutor’s Office over alleged corruption.

Also locked up is Barthelemy Okito Oleka, the General Secretary for Sports and Leisure.

The arrests were spearheaded by the Special Advisor to the Head of State in the fight against corruption, money laundering and terrorism Mr. Luzolo Bambi.

According to FOOT.RD, Omari and co is facing accusation of failing to account for money amounting to $1,000,000 they received from the government to help the federation prepare for friendlies for the senior national team, U17 and U20 teams.

The senior men’s national team, the Leopards, lost 2-0 to Taifa Stars of Tanzania in their last friendly last month in Dar es Salaam in a match four players stormed out of camp due to poor travel arrangements.

The incident is believed to have attracted the government’s ears leading to the probe against the federation bosses which begun last month.

The Leopards are also supposed to play the World Cup bound Super Eagles of Nigeria next month.
