Nigeria U17 women made a huge stride in their quest to book a spot for the upcoming U17 women’s world cup in India after they secured a 6-1 win over Guinea in their first round, first leg tie on Saturday at the September 28 stadium in Conakry.
A Yemisi Samuel hat trick, Rofiat Imuran double and a solo by Chinyere Kalu handed Nigeria the solid victory ahead of the reverse fixture.
Chinyere Kalu fired the Flamingos in front in the third minute after defensive blunders from Guinea backline. Eight minutes on, clinical goal poacher Yemisi Samuel doubled before Rofiat Imuran scored with a handful of minutes to the break for a 3-0 lead.
In second half, Nigeria remained dominant as goal scoring opportunities went begging. But again, they hit the target in the 65th with a second from Imuran.
The big scoreline not withstanding, the hosts Guinea pulled a goal back after a mixup in the visitors box.
However, Samuel went on to wrap up her hat trick with goals in the 85th and 91st minutes to conclude a perfect win away in Conakry.
The return leg will be played on March 14 in Lagos with the winner set to play either Liberia or Ghana for one of three slots to India.
