Kenyan international defender David Owino ‘Calabar’ is now Zesco’s highest scoring defender since the side was promoted to the Zambian top tier league in 2004.
The former Kenyan premier league defender of the year’s 8 goals have surpassed the previous record held by former Zambian international Rodgers Kamwandi who scored 5 goals for the Ndola based side.
Speaking exclusively to Soka25east.com, the Nakuru born defender expressed his delight on achieving the milestone and described this season has the best of his professional career so far.
“Its a great feeling though I still believe I can do better. I think this season has been the best, playing to the Semifinals of the CAF champions league and making it to the team of the tournament.”
The former Gor Mahia defender whose side lie third in the league standings behind second placed Nkana hopes to finish second in the league and play in the CAF confederation Cup next year.
“Our last 2 games will determine whether we will play in the confederation cup or not because now we are number 3 while Nkana is number 2 though we have an advantage.”
With one year left on his Zesco contract, the defence stalwart is fully concentrating on his team’s performance despite speculations on his next move.
