Cameroon unbeaten record in Group D to be tasted by Angola

Cameroon’s unbeaten record in Group D could come under threat when they head down the western coast of Africa for a 2026 World Cup qualifier against Angola at the Estadio 11 de Novembro on Tuesday, June 11.
The Indomitable Lions lead the way on seven points after picking up two wins and one draw from their opening three matches in the race to qualify for the global showpiece in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Marc Brys made a winning start to his tenure as the five-time African champions thrashed Cape Verde 4-1 in Yaounde on June 8 to stay ahead of Libya on goal difference.

Cameroon had beaten Mauritius 3-0 on November 17 and followed it up with a 1-1 draw against the Mediterranean Knights under the guidance of Rigobert Song, who was sacked following their exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in the round of 16.

The Black Sable Antelopes have yet to taste defeat in the group as well, although they trail the frontrunners by two points in third place.

Pedro Goncalves’ side failed to get on the scoresheet in their opening two qualifiers, but they still came away with a share of the spoils after holding the Blue Sharks and Mauritius to successive 0-0 draws.

Angola boosted their qualification hopes with a 1-0 victory against Southern African rivals Eswatini in Luanda on June 7 to leapfrog Cape Verde in the group.

The two teams have met regularly since 2000 when they were drawn in the same group for the 2002 World Cup qualifiers. They are deadlocked after six encounters with two wins each and two draws.
