Former Chipolopolo coach Patrick Phiri has said 2017 Africa Cup of Nations champions Cameroon pose the greatest threat to Zambia’s qualification to the 2018 FIFA World Cup slated for Russia.
Phiri said in an interview recently, that Cameroon’s performance at the just- ended cup of nations in Gabon has proved that they are serious contenders for a place at the global showpiece. Tough
Zambia is in Group B of the qualifiers alongside leaders Nigeria, Cameroon and bottom placed Algeria.
“We might have held them [Cameroon] when we played them but they look to be serious prospects when the qualifiers resume, they will give us [Zambia] and other teams in the group problems.
“This is based on their performance at the AfCON and that might just be their motivation to go all the way in the qualifiers, but as Zambia we should not give up or be intimidated,” Phiri said.
Last November, Zambia held Cameroon to a 1-all draw in Limbe with the hosts coming from behind after Wedson Nyirenda’s men took the lead via striker Collins Mbesuma.
