Cape Verde have sailed through to the Knockout Phase of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after a 3-0 victory against Mozambique in a Group B encounter played at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny on Friday.
Goals form Bebe, Ryan Mendes and Kevin Pina saw the Blue Sharks go to 6 points and maintain top spot in Group B.
This ultimately means that Islanders are the first team to qualify with a game to spare.
Tiago Correia known as Bebe put Cape Verde in the lead in the 32nd minute with a powerful free kick from an impossible distance much to the shock of Mozambique goalkeeper Hernani Siluane.
Ryan Mendes scored the second goal in the 51st minute taking advantage of a defensive lapse and calmly slotted in before Kevin Pina completed scores in the 69th minute with yet another contender for goal of the tournament.
It was a sweet victory for the Blue Sharks who now shift their attention to the last Group game against Egypt on Monday. Mozambique on the other hand will face Ghana on the same day.
