CAPS United clinched Zimbabwe 2016 Castle Lager Premiership title after beating Chapungu 1-0 at Ascot Stadium on Saturday 26th November 2016.
Simba Nhivi, eager to impress made his first contribution in the second minute of the match sneaking inside the Chapungu backline, when he hatched onto a loose ball for a wonderful goal.
The pressure continued and Rafadzwa Rusike ‘s well taken cross was headed out with Caps United leading 1-0 at half time.
When play resumed in second half Caps continued to control the proceedings with Ngodzo’s shot going just wide.
Chapungu had their moment to come into the match in the 48th minute with Nyasha testing Sibanda with a long cross that however did not bother the calm goalkeeper.
Caps missed an open chance in the 52nd minute from Nhivi, who found himself at the end of a great move initiated by Dominic Chungwaand Ronald Pfumbidzayi but failed to place the ball in an empty net.
Caps United were unrelenting keeping Chapungu keeper busy.
The Chapungu goalkeeper stretched well to deny Nhivi in the 56th minute.
From the hour mark Chapungu looked the more determined side with Chaberi causing Caps United problems on the flanks but he could only get a fruitless corner for all his efforts.
Caps United still had better possessions and time and again burst upfront threatening to score. On one such occasion, Dominic Chungwa’s goal bound shot was put out by Chapungu keeper for a fruitless corner.
There was a couple of anxious moments in last minutes of the second half but Caps United held on to their lead.
Caps United win the title with 63 points,two points more than second placed FC Platinum who beat Tsolotsho 3-0 becoming their fifth title in their history.
