Ngezi Platinum still leads
Defending champions Caps United’s drab start to the 2017 Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League season continued this after letting an almost comfortable 2nil lead against current log leaders Ngezi Platinum at the former’s ground.
Goals in the 45th and 65th by Rusike and Amidu appeared to be sending Caps on a cruiseship to three points and a chance to gatecrash into the top four of the current season. But it was not to be.
Ngezi replied through Teguru with a brace. He scored in the 72nd minute before leaving it late to break the Green Machine faithfuls’ heart on the knick of the final whistle. It ended 2all.
Another title favourite Platinum FC could not capitalised and square off things at the top with ten minutes as they struggled to a nil all draw in Zvishavane.
Triangle might have a relatively shorter trip than the are usually into in visiting teams in Bulawayo, Hwange and Kariba. Arrived with a resolute grip and kept Platinum at bay for the entire match. By any measure its a great result for the Sugarcane Boys.
Roderick Mutuma a son Highlanders enternal enemies Dynamos got himself to the first goal in 2017 season at a club many thought he might struggle to settle.
But seemingly he is have a party of a life.
Prince Dube put Highlanders ahead in the 49th minute before Mutuma added a second as Boss was enroute to bag the three points. Though Tsholotsho got a consolation twelve minutes after Mutuma scored. It was a nervy 25minutes for the Bulawayo giants to hold on to the 2-1 lead.
The results sends Highlanders straight into second position on the table with nine points.
Prayer boys Yadah FC seemingly are not intimidated by their new found fame in the top flight football. As they seem to be rubbing shoulders well with some seasoned campaign.
Ascot Stadium the home of their host Chapungu is not friendly place to visit and many football giants in Zimbabwe have found over the years how that pitch can be ruthless.
But Yadah is going about their business quitely and meticulous. A 1all draw against Chapungu in their back yard can be said to a worthwhile point. On the other hand the Airmen seem to finding the pace beyond them in the 2017 season. After 5 games they still anchor the table with 2 points. A delicate and alarming bell for the coach. They need to start putting in three pointers. Goals by Tavarwisa in the 65th minute and a penalty by Mavhunga in the 72nd could not separate two.
Premiership returnees Shabanie had a long and tedious trip to the famed Kariba town that is synonymous with the biggest manmade lake in Africa the Kariba Dam.
This place is not kiddies to visit for football. ZPC Kariba are a bogey side coached by veteran Sunday Chidzambwa. Shabanie who had requested the match to be rescheduled for logistical reasons but could not get their wish, gave a good account of themselves.
In the battle of the two biggest councils in Zimbabwe. Harare City has drawn nil all with their counterparts Bulawayo City FC. Both these two teams are sponsored by their councils.
