Goals from Thembikosi Lorch and Augustine Mulenga gave Orlando Pirates a 2-0 victory over Soweto rivals in the much anticipated Carling Black Label Cup played at the FNB Stadium this afternoon.
Chiefs new signing Lazarous Kambole started in attack with Khama Billiat and was hoping to make an immediate impact.
But it was his compatriot Augustine Mulenga who drew first blood as he latched onto a rebound to slot home in the 18th minute. Bvuma the Chiefs Keeper tried to play the ball out but Memela pounced only for his shot to hit the post but Mulenga was on hand to finish off from a rebound.
Kambole had an opportunity to level the scores 4 minutes later but could not hit the target. The goal was gaping for him to make the headlines but his effort sailed over the bar.
A moment of genius from Thembikosi Lorch sealed it for Pirates in the 30th minute even with so minutes left on the clock.
Justin Shonga found Lorch on the edge of the area and the midfielder let fly curling his effort into the top corner of the net.
Orlando Pirates were dominant through out the match. New signing Fortune Makaringe was voted as a substitute the Buccaneer fans wanted to see as he came on in the place of Lorch in the 50th minute.
53rd minute the Kaizer Chiefs fans brought on Mahlasela for Ntshangase to try and change the fortunes for Amakhosi.
Kambole was withdrawn in the 62nd minute for Leonardo Castro, not the debut the Zambian had hoped for.
Orlando Pirates rode out the Chiefs attack to win the Carling Black Label Cup.
