With just eight rounds of fixtures to the conclusion of the 2015/16 Ugandan Premier League, KCCA on Tuesday 5 inched closer to the crown with a vital 2-1 win away to Bright Stars at Mwererwe Grounds.
On a day when other title rivals; Vipers and Express failed to master wins, it meant the Mayor’s boys stretched the lead at the top of the log to 8 points.
Vice Captain and Cranes international left full back Joseph Ochaya struck twice via penalty in the first half for the opener before sealing the victory in the second stanza with a brace after Bright Stars’ Joshua Kawadwa had leveled the scores before the breather.
For his troubles and superb form for both club and country, he earned praises from the national team Coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojovic who tweeted as follows, “With all quality displays for KCCA and Cranes, garnished with goals and assists, Joseph Ochaya is the most outstanding performer in Uganda at present.”
On his part KCCA Manager Mike Mutebi had this say, “Their pitch is a bit small which was a challenge but we had to adapt quickly to get the win. They were also resistant but the boys coordinated well upfront and the magic happened,”
“We are now looking ahead to our next game with Maroons.” Mutebi added.
KCCA hosts Maroons at Nakivubo Stadium on Saturday 9 as they draw nearer to the title.
Full Tuesday Results:
Bright Stars 1-2 KCCA
URA 3-2 Simba
Police 0-0 Vipers
Lweza 2-0 Saints
SCVU 0-3 Sadolin
