The much anticipated first meeting between Sudan and South Sudan dubbed “Sudanese Derby” yesterday settled for a barren draw at the Bahir Dar Stadium – Ethiopia.
S.Sudan, the newest baby in the CECAFA region has been growing from strength to strength and has thus far registered a win – beating Djibouti 2-0 in their opening group “C” game.
A win over their former masters would have been historical, not only politically but also in terms of reaching the last eight for the first time in the regional tournament.
South Sudan will next play Malawi on Friday, with a draw making qualification a certainty.
Sudan on the other hand will be hunting for their first win when they play Djibouti also on Friday. Malawi tops the group after two wins with six points and are already through to quarterfinals.
