Host Ethiopia are through to the 2015 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup quarterfinals thanks to Salim Mbonde’s 92nd minute own goal.
Walia Ibex needed to avoid defeat in their last group “A” match against Tanzania to make it to the round of eight as best qualifiers but Simon Msuva’s 54th minute goal threatened to kick them out of their party.
With time quickly ticking away with just four minutes of added time, Aschalew Girma brought in a precise low cross from the right which defender Salim Mbonde turned into his own net, to spark wild celebrations at the fully parked Awassa International Stadium.
The two will meet again on Monday 30 in the second quarter final match in Addis.
