Kenya edged Tanzania 1-0 in Machakos Tuesday to sail through to the CECAFA Senior Challenge semifinals as group A leaders.

The Harambee Stars will face Burundi in the semifinals on Thursday in Kisumu.

Surprise package Zanzibar who lost by the same margin to guests Libya in the earlier match at the same venue finish second behind the hosts.

AFC Leopards prodigy Vincent Ouma scored the Harambee Stars’ lone goal in the 19th minute – tapping in Ovella Ochieng’s right cross which Tanzania’s goalkeeper Peter Manyika punched his way under pressure.

The win was coach Paul Put’s second in the group after 2-0 win over Rwanda in the opening game of the tournament in Kakamega.

Kenya will now face Burundi in the semifinals, while defending champions Uganda, who topped group B on goal difference, will take on Zanzibar at the same stage.

Burundi were held to barren draw by South Sudan in another fixture of the day in Kakamega.

Tanzania and South Sudan finished rock bottom in their groups with single points and join Libya and Rwanda out of the tournament.
