Uganda were held to a frustrating 0-0 stalemate by Burundi in a Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup match played at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Monday evening.
Cranes dominated large parts the encounter but were unable to provide the finishing touches to wave-after-wave of attack.
Moses Basena’s troops started the game on the front foot with Milton Karisa and Muzamir Mutyaba combining well in attack; the later going close on the half-hour mark as his attempt was cleared off the line.
Benjamin Ochan was then called into action with 39 minutes on the clock as the Swallows flexed their muscles before the break.
Moses Basena, manning the touchline as ‘caretaker coach’ subbed off the duo of Tadeo Lwanga and Allan Katerega at the interval.
Uganda continued to dominate possession and territory with Nelson Senkatuka denied by Nahimana Jonathan in the 69th minute. The Police FC midfielder having emerged from the bench in the second stanza.
Derrick Nsibambi then we close in the 82nd minute as his powerful effort flew over the crossbar.
Hood Kawesa had late chance to win it for the defending champions but he was denied by the Burundi shot-stopper in second-half stoppage-time as Uganda had to settle for a draw.
The result, though, does extend Cranes ’s unbeaten run by Burundi to five matches.
