Hosts Kenya was placed in group A of this year’s CECAFA Senior Challenge alongside guests Libya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zanzibar in today’s draw.
Group B consists of defending champions and record winners Uganda, guests Zimbabwe, Burundi, Ethiopia and South Sudan.
Two teams each from the groups will sail to the semi-finals.
The matches will be staged in three cities namely Kisumu, Nakuru and Kakamega with Nairobi and Machakos being put on standby.
Tanzania based pay television Azam TV will be this year’s broadcast partner.
A clash between Kenya and Rwanda will officially kick-start the tournament 3rd December with Libya versus Tanzania serving as the curtain raiser.
Match venues are yet to be confirmed neither is the prize money for the winners.
The tournament was initially to begin on 25th of this month to 9th December but was pushed back and will now start on 3rd to 17th December due to “unavoidable” circumstances, as Nicholas Musonye, the CECAFA’s General Secretary explained.
Uganda and Rwanda will use the tournament to prepare for the 2018 CHAN scheduled for Morocco next year.
