Rwanda will be looking to bounce back against Somalia in the last group game which will be played in Awassa City, seeking to book a place in the quarter-finals of the ongoing CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in Ethiopia.
Johnny McKinstry, who has lost seven times in eight matches, will be looking for less than a win which will help him to go through to the last eight, which starts on Sunday.
Amavubi won their first match against hosts Ethiopia 1-0, thanks to Jacques Tuyisenge, but lost the second match to Tanzania 2-1—Said Juma and Simon Msuwa scored for the Kilimanjaro Stars before Tuyisenga scored Rwanda’s consolation goal on Tuesday.
Tanzania have already booked their quarter final ticked as group A leaders, having won both their matches with Ethiopia coming in second place with three points after Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Somalia while Rwanda is third also with three points but with an inferior goal difference.
Elsewhere on Friday, Zanzibar will face Kenya, S. Sudan meet Malawi while Djibouti meet Sudan. On Wednesday, Ethiopia beat Somalia 2-0, thanks to goal from Mohammed Nasser (14) and Behailu Girma in the 82nd minute.
In other matches Malawi trounced Djibouti 3-0, thanks to Gerald Phiri, John Banda and former APR striker Chiukepo Msowoya—The Flames are into the last eight.
Kenya drew 1-1 against Burundi. Amisi Tambwe gave Burundi an 11th minute lead which was cancelled Michael Olunga on the 41st minutes, for his second goal of the tournament to add to the one he scored against the Uganda Cranes in the first match on Sunday.
