Former South Sudan Football Federation president,Chabur Goc Alei has formally declared that he will be vying for the SSFA’s president post in the federation’s polls expected to take place not later than April 2017.
The current office’s tenure came to an end in early March 2017 and the delegates will go to the ballot to elect leaders who will be in charge of South Sudan Football in the next six years.
Chabur who is the immediate former football president declared that he will vie for the top position,a seat that is currently being held by Adelmo Wani Agustino on an interim basis.
“Today i have submitted my candidacy for SSFA president position,” Chabur tweeted.
During Chabur’s tenure South Sudan football experienced growth,a subject that made FIFA President Gianni Infantino to chose South Sudan for his first stop in Africa three weeks after his election.
Much development was witnessed after Infantino visit with South Sudan training grounds and football pitches with more players, especially young boys and girls, as well as referees being the benefitialies.
However,Chabur had tough time in office having been accused for financial impropriety by his opposers during his six years tenure.
He survived first ouster in July last year, regaining control in a FIFA lead intervation which culminated in the signing of a “Roadmap of the South Sudan Football Association until 2017” in August last year.
He is expected to face stiff competition from Adelmo who also serves as chairman of Juba Local Football Association.Adelmo was elected on interim bases to head the SSFA during Extraordinary General Assembly which took place on 6th March in Juba.
