DR Congo made a minced meet of Ethiopia’s Walia Ibex mauling them by three unanswered goals in a CHAN 2016 group “B” tie staged on Sunday 17 at Huye Stadium, Butare.
The convincing triumph catapults the “Leopards” to the summit of the group pending Angola, Cameroon clash later this evening at the same venue.
Florent Ibenge’s team went ahead at the stroke of the breather through AS Vita Club’s midfielder Guy Lusadisu’s well taken header in the 44th minute, animating the jubilant Butare fans who turned up in their numbers to enjoy the show.
There was no tilt on the balance in the second half as the Central Africans continued to assert their authority over the East Africans, and barely two minutes into the second stanza, Congo added the second from another lovely header, this time from Heritier Luvumbu in the 47th minute.
Meschack Elia put the match beyond Coach Yohannes Sahle side’s reach with the third goal in the 55th minute confirming the three points for Congo DR.
