With only two rounds in to the second largest tournament in the continent -the African nation’s Championship tournament CHAN, excitement is pilling up as players shape their future.
Super Eagles goal poacher Elvis Chisom Chikata has already placed himself among the favorite scorers in this year’s edition, with four goals in two matches, following a second half hat-trick during Nigeria’s opener against Niger and another goal in their 1-1 draw with Tunisia in group C.
His goal hunting skills are spectacular, given the fact that he is already at par with last editions(2014) golden boot winner Bernard Parker of South Africa, who scored four goals by the culmination of the event. The Abia Warriors striker is looking forward to cementing his lead when Nigeria meets Guinea on Tuesday (26th January).
Chikatara is however followed closely by Tunisia’s Ahmed Akaichi who has three goals from two matches. The Etoile Du Sahel forward has been instrument in his national team, most notably being his goal against DRC Congo that enabled the North African giant’s proceed to the African cup of nations knock out stage in 2015.
On Tuesday Tunisia will battle it out with Niger at the Nyamirambo stadium giving Akaichi another opportunity to add to his goal tally.
Alseny Kamara of Guinea, Ernest Sugira of host Rwanda and Dr. Congo’s Mechak Elia has scored two goals each.
The player’s efforts are being felt in the crucial group stage, as Rwanda tops in group A on six points after wining both matches.
DRCongo also tops group B with six points. Nigeria tops group C on four points with a win and a draw, followed by Guinea and Tunisia who have two points each from two draws.
More spectacular performance is expected in Rwanda, with players not only keen to ensure their countries go through to the next round, but with a possibility of being scouted for bigger clubs lingering at the back of their minds.
