A team from the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) is expected in Nairobi on a five-day visit to conduct the final inspection on the preparation of the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) before giving Kenya the greenlight or stripping the country of the event next week.
The inspection team from the headquarters of the continental football in Cairo will be in Kenya on Monday 11 September to go on a detailed inspection of the stadiums and training grounds to be used for the 16-team tournament due early next year.
The inspection team is made up of Constant Selemani Omari(2nd CAF Vice-President),Mohamed Khaled El Shawarby,Tarek El Deeb(CAF Competitions Director), Khaled Nassar,Magd Abdel Razek,Mohamed Thabet (CAF Manager) and Amira Amin (Marketing Officer).
They will visit venues at Kasarani Stadium,Nyayo Stadium,Kinoru Stadium,Kipchoge Keino Stadium and Machakos Stadium, which were all designated as the venues for the tournament in January 12 to February 4.
The CAF teams will also hold meetings with Minister in charge of Sports and Football Kenya Federation officials.
They will thereafter on Saturday 16th Sepetember hold a press conference before leaving the following day.
During the visit the government is expected to confirm to the public whether they had given CAF the financial guarantee they need to allow the country host the CHAN.
Reports are rife the continental football governing body could turn to South Africa or Morocco to host the 16-team tournament should Kenya be deemed short of the requirements amidst rising political tension in the country.
Should CAF strip Kenya the 2018 CHAN as feared, it will be the second time the nation loses a continental football showpiece due to internal political factors after it was denied the rights to host the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
