Mauritania beat Liberia 2-0 in a 2018 CHAN qualifier match played on Sunday 16 July 2017 at Antoinette Tubman Stadium.
Yali Dellahi and Babacar Baugili were the heroes for Les Mourabitones with two well scored goals.
Mauritania took the lead late in the first half through Dellahi on 37th minutes, with the tall midfielder slotting home past Tommy Song’o after a good ball from Badiane.
Lone Stars Mark Pale nearly got his name on the score-sheet after being handed time and space to fire home from a fabulous cross from Amadiah Kawah but his shot went wide.
Nuwo Johson had another chance for Liberia with a free-kick, but on the large, they were toothless in attack in the first half.
In the second half, they upped the attack to try get back in the game and they had a couple of opportunities.
However, it was Mauritania who got an early oppotunity on 62nd minute from a free-kick that was easily slotted in by Babubacar Baguili.
Mark Payr would have the best of the chances, with a strong effort on 65 minutes that was well saved by Soulemane in the Mauritania goal. Then three minutes later, he would have a similar effort that was just wide.
Liberia had another opportunity to a consolation late effort when they got a penalty but were was brilliantly denied by Souleimane in the Mauritania goal.
