Burkina Faso and Angola meet on Tuesday in the first-ever CHAN meeting between the two nations, and while the South Africans will know more about their opponents than vice versa, the truth is that Stallions are fast transforming into a different side from that which Palacas Negras might be expecting.
The new generation has come and appears ready to conquer Africa, and we need to look no further than their recent heroics on their way to the 2018 Africa Nations Championship, where they were unbeaten in three matches prior to the tournament.
Stallions’ impressive performances against Angola in Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) where they have met six times and Burkina Faso had three victories against two for Angola and a draw should give Ricardo Job and his technical team something to worry about.
Traore has always maintained that his troops have chance to perform better in the tournament because the pressure is not the same as when they play in front of home crowd.
Burkina Faso eliminated Ghana in the qualifiers 4-3 on aggregate with the results proving that the coach has a point.
However, there’s more pressure on Stallions than there has ever been before, over the week, they have lost one of their top scorers Severin Traore through injury and now has been replaced by Issa Guouo who travelled to Morocco late yesterday.
The Portuguese-born coach will want his first meeting against Traore in CHAN to be a memorable one, but the Western Africa nation that have enough quality, ammunition will have to prove themselves against Angola.
The Palancas Negras edged past Mauritius and Madagascar to qualify for their third participation.
Angola’s best performance was in 2011 when they lost the final to Tunisia. They failed to progress from the group phase in their last participation.
Both team share group D along with Cameroon and Republic of the Congo who will also meet later in the day
