Swaziland referee Thulani Sibandze has been suspended by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) with immediate effect.
The lanky official was adjudged to have erred during Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) second leg qualifier between Namibia and Zimbabwe allowing one of penalties kick to stand.
Zimbabwe had won the game by beating Namibia 1-0 but lost 4-5 on penalties.
Also caught up in the mess is assistant referee Petros Mbingo after Zimbabwe Football Association (ZFA) lodged an official complaint against the referee and his assitant , who has now been suspended by CAF and will not officiate any match for unspecified time.
The controvesy during the match rose when Dynamo Fredricks rose to take Namibia third spot kick where he embarked on his run-up and then just before striking the ball completely stopped as he feigned his shot.
Zimbabwe goalkepeer dived to his right, and with advantage of knowing where the goalkeeper had chosen to move,Fredricks cooly slotted the ball into the left hand side.
Information published by the Times of Swaziland indicate the referees have been ordered by CAF to write an explanation letter.
This creates a scenario where CAF may order the replay of the qualifier or award Zimbabwe chance to succed to the third round as FIFA regulations do not clasify penalty shoot-out as being part of the game.
