When Rwandese International Ernest Sugira was recalled to the national team Amavubi few days ago, the good news came as a surprise to the player and yet it was time for him to reignite his international career after failing to shine away in DR Congo when he joined AS Vita.
However that was not the case as bad luck hit Sugira just days after getting the call up from coach Antonie Hey he was down with a serious injury on Tuesday in training.
Rwanda international Ernest Sugira could miss the rest of the season after suffering a closed fracture tibia in Tuesday training that forced the technical bench to stop the training at Stade de Kigali.
Sugira had been drafted back to the national team after joining APR from DR Congo side AS Vita having not performed as expected after joining in 2016 after an exemplary performance at CHAN 2016 hosted by Rwanda.
The injury is a big blow to Rwanda who suffered a humiliating 3-0 loss to Uganda Cranes in 2018 CHAN qualifier away in Uganda. His presence was supposed to strengthen the striking department but that will not be the case as he will sure miss the return leg in Kigali.
Sugira was immediately rushed to the King Faycal hospital in Kigali where a scan was immediately done to ascertain the injury which will most definitely keep him out for more than 6 months.
The player is still admitted to the hospital recuperating and has been ruled out from participating in the second leg against Uganda Cranes.
