Hosts Morocco and Sudan played out a goalless draw in Casablanca in Africa Nations Championship Group A on Sunday.

The draw ensured Morocco finished as group winners, Sudan following in second with Guinea and Mauritania in third and fourth respectively.

Lions of Atlas dominated large parts the encounter but were unable to provide the finishing touches to wave-after-wave of attack.

Jamal Sellami’s troops started the game on the front foot with Ahmed Hammoudan and Walid El Karti combining well in attack; the later going close in the 20th minute as his attempt was cleared off the line.

Akram Salim was then called into action with 39 minutes on the clock as the Lions of Atlas flexed their muscles before the break.

As a result, the score was 0-0 at halftime between Sudan and Morocco following a lively first-half which was dominated by the tournament hosts.

The hosts posed rather more of a threat in the second half, and were awarded a penalty after five minutes when Bakri Bachir brought down El Karti in the box. Akram equalled to the task by denying Casablanca fans favourite Bencharki.

Sudan then came into attack with Mohammed Idris going on a brilliant solo run and setting up Malik Maki, although he could only blaze his shot over the bar.

In the 62nd minute, Hussein Ahmed shot straight at the Morocco goalkeeper, before Walid forced Akram to keep out a fierce shot at the other end of the pitch soon after.

El Karti flashed another effort wide of the mark, as a disappointing encounter fizzled out to a goalless conclusion.

In another Group A match Guinea beat Mauritania 1-0 in what was a dead robber in Marrakech as the two side had been eliminated.
