A friendly match between Rwanda and Sudan today aborted in the 40th minute after Sudan players went “physical” with their Rwandan opponents.

The warm-up played at Stade Mongi Ben Brahim, Morocco was tied at 0-0 at the time of the incident.

According to FERWAFA’s account of events, the unfortunate incident started when Sudanese player Nasser Omar fouled Rwanda’s Djihad Bizimana.

“Game called off as Sudanese player Nasser Omar fouled Djihad Bizimana and then head-butted Yannick Mukunzi.

“Tunisian referee called for a free-kick, but Sudanese players led by goalie Akram El Madi unhappy with the decision decided to go physical with Rwandan players,” FERWAFA tweeted.

The build-up was part of preparations for the upcoming 2018 CHAN in Morocco.

“Rwanda to continue preparations against Namibia with a friendly match on Sunday in Jamal,” FERWAFA added.

The tournament for home-based professionals starts Friday next week in Morocco and will run till 4 February.
