Nigeria’s home based Super Eagles on Sunday lost the first leg of their Final round first leg of the 2020 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Lome, Togo 4-1.
Nigeria’s Sanusi Ibrahim scored in the 10th minute against the Sparrowhawks but the hosts equalised two minutes later through Yendoutie Richard Nana.Eagles’ right back John Lazarus was yellow carded in the 24th minute for a foul.
The first half ended 1-1 with chances for both sides at a premium.
Super Eagles goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai made a superb save in the 50th minute to the applause of the fans in the stadium.
Togo however went in front in the 63rd minute through Richard Nana following a goal mouth scramble.
Nine minutes later, Marouf Tchakei made it 3-1 for the hosts to make the score almost irreversible for the Super Eagles.
The hosts added one more goal just before full time to leave Imama Amapakabo with a mountain to climb in the return leg.
