The Charity Shield is the opener of the league season in Zambia and it’s always has history written on it. Nkana remain the record holders with 15 shields followed by Kabwe Warriors with 7.
For Power Dynamos, every time they have won the Charity Shield they have failed to win the league title. They may choose not to win it this coming season.
But this is not about that …….While Nkana are the record holders Kabwe Warriors and Nkana hold an interesting story in the Charity Shield journey of winning it five on a trot in the total of 50 played from 1967.
Kabwe Warriors hold the record of winning the Shield five on a trot and that came from 1969 to 1973 and this also included that period when the goal machine man Ucar Godfrey Chitalu was with Kabwe Warriors.
Nkana matched that record a’s they won the shield from 1993 to 1997 of course grabbing it from Kabwe Warriors.
Here is that record of Kabwe Warriors :
1969 Kabwe Warriors
1970 Kabwe Warriors
1971 Kabwe Warriors
1972 Kabwe Warriors
1973 Kabwe Warriors
After 1973 Kabwe Warriors struggled to get the shield and the sixth one came in 1988 with the seventh and last coming in 1992.
When I say Kabwe Warriors holds a lot of history for the Zambian game this is what I mean.
Are we ever have a team that will break that record. Five on a trot.
