The Tournament officially named Samuel “Zoom” Ndhlovu Memorial Cup since 2003 is a soccer season opener which brings up winners of the previous season to compete and open the gates for the rest. It’s been counted since 1967 .
The 2018 edition is hence the 52nd time the Charity shield will be held and Nkana still stand as the record holders with 15 shields adding to the the big record of winning the shield five times in a row from 1993 to 1997.
Kabwe Warriors who have also been very good in this season opener won the shield four times in a row and are second ranked with 7 shields. Power Dynamos have won it 6 times while Green Buffaloes follow closely on five.
Mufulira Wanderers and Zesco United share the shields on four with Nchanga Rangers and Zanaco on three each.
Red Arrows have won it twice with Ndola United and Vitaform getting it once.
