Chile have booked their place in the final of the 2017 Confederations Cup after beating Portugal 3-0 on penalties at the Kazan Arena in Russia.

Claudio Bravo was the hero, keeping out all three of the Selecao’s spot kicks to help his side through to the final, where they will face either Germany or Mexico on Sunday.

The match got off into a lively start with Chile’s first real opening arriving after 11 minutes when Sanchez and Vargas combined, but the latter fired over the crossbar from close range.

Portugal squandered a good chance to break the deadlock after 17 minutes, as Ronaldo headed wide of the upright from close range.

Chile enjoyed most of the possession in the first half, but struggled with their final ball around the 18-yard area.

The sides went into the break with the score locked at 0-0.

Chile should have taken the lead 10 minutes into the second half when Jara was played through on goal, however the full-back failed to beat Patricio from six-yards out.

Bravo was called into action in the 68th minute, as he produced a fine save to keep out Adrien Silva’s effort from the edge of the box.

With time running out, Portugal made some changes for the final stages but they did not make the desired impact as the tie went into a extra time.

The additional 30 minutes did not produce a winner though seconds towards penalties Arturo Vidal’s shot crashed off the inside of the post before Rondriguez crashed the rebound off cross bar.

It was the South Americans who held their nerve in the shoot-out to win the match, as Portugal missed all three penalties.
