Nkana given a reality check
ZESCO United 2-0 Nkana
John Ching’andu scored two great goals to hand Zlat first silverware as ZESCO trainer.
Zlat’s first test in the ZESCO hotseat finished with a trophy having taken the lead in the first half through a fine solo effort from John Ching’andu.
But Nkana who showed were up for the tussle, responded but the combination of Walter Bwalya and Ronald Kampamba could not tells anything upfront .
The first half ended with a very good game of football and what a way to start the season. Nkana pushed but Zesco was up for the challenge and couldn’t allow Nkana okay in the middle ofnthe park which was well marshaled by Kondwani Mtonga and John Ching’andu.
But it was Ching’gandu again who had the final say with a croacher of. a goal giving the Nkana goal keeper no chance in goal, replays shows that would be a contender of great goals this season. That was enough to give Zlat his first trophy.
TALKING POINT
How did Nkana players fare on this competitive game? By their lofty standards the team was very quiet with their strikers playing in a deep role with too many lost passes. They just didn’t turned yp for the contest. I saw one chance from Walter that hit the cross bar in the second half bit that’s all and not enough to scare the host. His link-up play with Ronald Kampamba and a below-par midfield was patchy. Actually Walter Bwalya was very lucky to have stayed on after video evidence showed the Nkana striker pushing the match official. This is after Nkana were already reduced to 10 men after another careless foul by Nkana captain on Bahn.
Very good result for ZESCO and they can now prepare for real battle in Nigeria as they hope to get past Enugu Rangers for a place in the Group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup.
ZESCO United has now won the Charity Shield four times and on three occasions beating Nkana in the finals.
Well done Zesco and hard lucky Nkana , a good game of football at show and worthy a final!
