Chipolopolo coach Aggrey Chiyangi says getting a draw away was not a bad result in the first leg of the Cameroon 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) against Botswana.
And Botswana coach Mogomotsi Mpote said the Zebras are confident of a win away to Zambia on Saturday at National Heroes Stadium.
In a post-match interview after Zambia and Botswana battled to a goalless draw in Francistown on Saturday, Chiyangi said the magic to getting to the next round would be preparing well for the second leg.
“It is a good result because playing away and then we get a draw. That is the worst we expected, what we did not want was to lose this game here,” he said.
“We did not score meaning that we failed to win this game but the most important thing is we have managed to hold them to a 0-0 result. The only thing we have to do is go home and plan very well against them.”
Chiyangi said Botswana had improved over the years and could not be taken lightly by any team.
“Botswana are playing very good football, even the last time we beat them in the Cosafa it was not a walkover. This one was very tough, they have really improved and played good football,” he said.
And Mogomotsi said the Zebras could cause an upset in Lusaka.
“If they come here and take a draw from Botswana we can go there and win in Zambia. It is football, it is cruel, we can go there and surprise them,” he said.
Zambia and Botswana will duel on Saturday at National Heroes Stadium in the second leg encounter after having settled for a barren draw in the first leg.
Winner over two legs will face either Angola or eSwatini in the final qualifying round of the Cameroon 2020 CHAN tournament.
