Ghanaian midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng has revealed that picking the Black Stars over Germany was one of the best decisions he made in his life.
Boateng who has represented Germany at Under 19, Under 20 and Under 19 level decided to choose the African Country in 2009 just in time for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
He was born to a Ghanaian father and German mother but decided to feature for Ghana while his brother Jerome Boateng chose to represent Germany.
The two brothers have faced each other in the course of representing their respective countries at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups.
In an Instagram live chat with Thierry Henry, the 33-year-old says he chose Ghana over Germany because his character.
“I didn’t feel German 100 per cent and I didn’t feel Ghanaian 100%. I was always in the middle,” Boateng said.
“Football came and opened the doors for Germany and I was proud that I was going to play for Germany.
“As I got older, I kept my brain the way I was and I always said what I thought and it was not always welcome.
“So there came a time when I thought I was not going to make it with Germany, not because of my quality but because my character doesn’t fit.
“So I decided to play for Ghana and honestly it is one of the best of my career.
“To go home to see your roots and see a different culture and play two World Cups was amazing.”
In June 2009, Boateng told the German authorities that he was no longer interested in representing Germany.
He called time on his International career at 24-years of age citing fatigue from traveling but reversed his decision just in time for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Boateng was a key member of the Black Stars squad at the World Cup in Brazil but was sent home before the final group match against Portugal after a falling out with coach Kwesi Appiah.
