AFC Leopards’ six-match unbeaten ran came to an end at the hands of their bogey team City Stars, Mathare United bounced back with a win over Ushuru as Sony Sugar and Western Stima settled to a barren draw in Sunday’s matches.
City Stars 1-0 AFC Leopards (Nyayo National Stadium)
City Stars captain Oscar Mbugua helped his team to their first back-to-back of the season as they ended AFC Leopards’ unbeaten run.
Mbugua broke the deadlock of this see-saw battle in the 66th minute when he made the best of a loose ball from Ingwe goalkeeper Lucas Indeche, who had punched out a goal-bound effort from midfielder Arthur Museve off a corner.
Both sides created chances in an open, flowing game played on a wet and slippery pitch, but City Stars will be grateful for some inspired goalkeeping by Victor Odhiambo.
Ushuru 0-1 Mathare United (Nyayo National Stadium)
With this result, Mathare United provided a good response to their 2-0 loss to City Stars on Wednesday.
Playing against his former employers, striker Obadiah Ndege converted a penalty in the 45th minute to extend his personal count for the season to five.
Veteran midfielder Charles Okwemba had found the back of the net for the taxmen in the 22nd minute, but his goal was disallowed for offside.
Sony Sugar 0-0 Western Stima (Awendo Green Stadium)
It was the second successive draw for winless Sony Sugar as they moved out of the basement of the league table.
Chances were few and far apart, the best falling to Stima’s Wesley Kemboi who only had to find the target with the goal staring at him in the second half.
