Muhoroni Youth have parted ways with head Coach James Omondi “Odijo”. Omondi was unceremoniously abandoned in Mumias after the “Cane Cutters” lost 2-1 to host KK Homeboyz in a SportPesa Premier League match on Saturday 21.
According to inside source at the Awasi side, it was just a matter of time before the former KCB and Agro Chemical tactician was shown the door – for what the source termed as Odijo’s “individualistic nature and inability to corporate with his colleagues”.
It is said he failed to work with Peter Okidi as an assistant early this year and lately couldn’t stomach the introduction of the former Sony Coach Leonard Odipo as a technical director.
The long term plan was reportedly to have Odipo who is more qualified (CAF A) as the head Coach with Odijo as assistant, in accordance with CAF club licensing rules which come to effect in Kenya starting next year – but Odijo couldn’t handle the reality, basing his arguments on the team’s good performance as what matters.
The weekend loss just provided an opportune moment for the management to crack the whip and they didn’t hesitate.
Odijo joined Muhoroni Youth in June 2015 as assistant to Paul Nkata, and when the Ugandan decamped to Tusker, he was promoted to head Coach with Tom Juma as his deputy.
Soka25east.com confirmed today’s morning training session was conducted by Juma with Odijo loudly missing. Muhoroni lie sixth on the log with 20 points.
