Congo Brazzaville U-17’s national team assistant coach Isaac Ngata has backed radical changes to African football’s showpiece event.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed on Thursday that the tournament will be expanded to 24 teams from 16, starting from Cameroon 2019.

In an interview with a section of press from Ivory Coast where he is with the U-17’s  side that is taking part in the ongoing Francophone games Ngata said,

“I think it’s a great thing … the competition will be all the more beautiful. The best teams would be there.

“When one sees the last competitions lacking of the caliber like Nigeria. And personally it’s very good for us if this applies from 2019 … we will still have our destiny in our hands “.

CAF also confirmed that starting with the 2019 edition, the Africa Cup of Nations will move from January/February to June/July.
