Zambia National Women’s team Skipper Misozi Zulu says the possibility of representing Zambia at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will spur the team to beat Cameroon.
In an interview, Misozi who is on the books of European top side BIIK Kazygurt who reached the quarterfinals of the 2019 UEFA Champions League before losing to Bayern Munich said the team were within touching distance of the Olympic dream.
“The training is going on well and everyone is doing their best. All we want is a win over Cameroon, our training shows that everyone is serious,” she said.
She said the three foreign based players were eager to help the team reach greater heights.
“For us playing in foreign leagues we have to do more to add value to the team. We want to make our country proud. We just have to push hard,” she said.
“We have beaten Cameroon before so we are very capable of beating them.”
She also said playing at the Olympic would open many doors abroad for a legion of players still plying their trade locally.
“Everyone can play abroad, this is the time for us to open doors to play abroad and play Champions League in Europe,” she said.
“We have to fight to play in Europe, we cannot just be comfortable playing in Bauleni, Red Arrows and Green Buffaloes. We have to push to play abroad. We have very good players here.”
Zambia will be away to Cameroon on March 5 before hosting the indomitable lionesses five days later in the final round of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Winner over two legs will qualify to the Olympics while the losing team will engage in a play-off with Chile.
