Two wins out of two for the Copper Queens as top Group B with 6 points after a 3-2 victory over Namibia at the COSAFA Women’s Championship.
Helen Mubanga scored two goals with Mary Mwakapila getting the other. Namibia were more threatening in the early stage with Zenatha Coleman forcing Hazel Nali into saving twice from set pieces.
But Mubanga put Zambia ahead against the run of play after nice combination between Grace Chanda and Rachel Nachula. Mubanga calmly slotted the ball into the net on her first start.
Namibia were awarded a penalty after Nali was adjudged to have fouled Coleman in the box. The Valencia based player buried the penalty to level but the Green Buffaloes Keeper made a touch of the ball.
Mary Mwakapila restored Zambia’s lead from a free kick in the 60th minute before Helen Mubanga made it 3-1 in the 76th minute after Namibia failed to clear from a corner.
Annouscka Kordom pulled a goal back to make it 3-2 with only 10 minutes left on the clock but the Zambia team held on for a win.
Next for Zambia is Botswana in a potential group decider.
