High Scoring Zambia Women’s National team gave away a 3nil lead to lose to South Africa’s Banyana Banyana.
A 5-3 from the dreaded lottery set up saw South Africa book a place in finals of the on going Cosafa Women’s Tournament in the second biggest City of Zimbabwe, Bulawayo.
Shepolopolo looked like they were headed to finals after dominating the match against the much higher rated Banyana Banyana as they took control of the match as early as the 20th minute when Barbara Banda scored the opener.
A beautifully taken strike on the stroke of hafttime by Grace Chanda made from Zambia go into the break with a comfortable 2nil lead.
Barbara Banda was brought down in the box on the 50th minute. But Rhoda Chileshe missed the ensuing penalty.
Suddenly South Africa started coming more into the game. Could have been a tactical to excite Zambia into tiring. And the game was now seesaw. But Zambia pounced to make it 3 nil in the 73rd minute via Misozi Phiri.
At this point it seemed dead and buried. And Zambia was on it way to fight for coveted prize. Meanwhile Banyana Banyana were awakening from the slumber.
In the space of less 12 minutes South Africa scored thrice, 75th, 77th via penalty and 83rd to disillusion their supposed marauding nemesis.
Taking match straight in penalty shootout. Win 5-3 to book a place final against hosts Zimbabwe or invitees Kenya. The later by press time were losing 2nil.
