Kamuzu Barracks midfielder, Dave Banda, has been announced as the new captain of the Malawi national football team,the Flames.
The news was broken by caretaker coach Gerald Phiri, who said that Banda will be the captain as the team prepares for 2018 Chan qualifying campaign aganist Madagascar away on 22 April.
“We are set to get rolling. We believe Banda as the most experienced player in the squad should be the leader and we trust his capabilities,” said Phiri in an interview with Malawian leading daily, Nyasa Times.
Banda will be deputised by Be Forward Wanderers central defender Lucky Malata.
Flames are already in camp as they prepare of the fixtures as well as a friendly match aganist Kenya which they will play in Machakos Stadium in transit to Madagascar.
