David “Calabar” Owino honored in Zambia.

Kenyan international and Zesco United defender David Owino nicknamed “Calabar” was on Friday, November 20 named the most disciplined player at the Zambian champions.

Zesco United held their end of the year and gala awards last night to reward be best among them after a splendid season which saw them retain their Zambian Super League trophy for the second time on the trot.

Calabar who is currently with the national squad preparing for the CECAFA Senior Challenge which kicks off today Saturday 21 in Ethiopia did not attend the awards.

The former Gor Mahia man was a rock in Zesco’s backline in his first year at “Timu yaziko” becoming an instant fans favorite for his no nonsense defending approach and eye for goal. He scored crucial goals for his side in decisive games as his star shone brighter on a foreign soil.

Before leaving for Zambia at the end of the 2014 season, Owino was crowned back to back winner of the Kenyan Premier League defender of the year accolade while at K’Ogalo.

Striker Winston Kalengo who has been in top form for both clun and country walked away with two gongs having been named the top striker and the player of the year.

Clatous Chama was crowned the most valuable player.
