Mamelodi Sundowns and Wydad Casablanca will do battle in a Caf Champions League second-leg semifinal clash at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Saturday afternoon.
Kick-off is at 15h00 CAT. 16h00 EAT
The two teams will meet at the venue just outside South Africa’s capital city eight days after their clash in Rabat. The Brazilians fell to a 2-1 defeat in Morocco with goals from Salheddine Saidi and Aouk Badi leading Wydad to victory.
Anele Ngcongca scored what could prove to be a pivotal away goal for the reigning South African champions as they set their sights on a second final appearance in four years, while also aiming to deny Wydad a second final showing in three.
Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane was happy with how his team performed in Rabat, with the goal their first in four matches at the venue over the last few years.
“While I’m not entirely happy with the result because we lost 2-1‚ I’m happy with the performance from the team because it’s always a difficult place for us here in Morocco – but we improve [here]‚” Mosimane said.
He continued: “We made a lot of mistakes at the back‚ but you have to understand that everyone is stressed because it’s the Caf Champions League semifinals and everyone wants to go to the finals. I believe we should have cleared the ball in the first goal
“[But] It was the first time I have seen Wydad so stressed at the back – it’s also because we scored the important away goal.”
Themba Zwane scored a brace for Sundowns in a 2-1 win over Wydad in Atteridgeville during the group stages of this year’s competition. The last time Sundowns played at the venue, they mauled Al Ahly 5-0.
The aggregate winner will face either Esperance de Tunis or TP Mazembe in this season’s final.
