The final match of the 2016 edition of Djibouti Cup has been postponed due
to the Holy Month of Ramadan, Djibouti Football Federation, announced here
on Wednesday 8th of June.
The final match will be contested by Djibouti Telecom FC, current National
championship holders and Dikhil FC. Both clubs are from the southern
regions of the country.
“For respect of the Holy month of Ramdan during which all people in this
country are fasting we have decided to postpone the final match of the
tourney” Djibouti Football Federation president, Souleiman Hassan Waberi,
said in a statement.
The president said that the match will take place sometime between 8-15
July adding that the exact day will be announced next week.
Both clubs have never won the Djibouti cup, a premier football event which
was first inaugurated in Djibouti in 1996, but if Djibouti Telecom wins
this time, it will mark a great year for them as they are already the
country’s champions.
Djibouti Telecom lost in the finals of the 2012, 2013 and 2014 editions of
Djibouti Cup event which is the second most-watched football competition
in the country after the national league known here as the FDF Division A.
