Djibouti Telecom has retained its National football league title after
winning the country’s elite football league known here as the [FDF
Division 1] on Friday 20th of May.
The 3-0 triumph over AS Port FC rivals from a match played at the National
Technical Centre facility, saw the Djibouti Telecom FC celebrate their 4th
successive title this year.
They won their first league title in 2009, but made a comeback in 2013 and have been the country’s champions since then.
Thousands of cheering chanting fans occupied the stadium early enough to
avoid missing seats.
Some of the fans were seen performing their Friday prayers in the stadium’s praying room.
Several key officials enjoyed the
match including the president of Djibouti Football Federation, Souleiman
Hassan Waberi, members of his executive committee, Djibouti Telecom sales manager, Mohamed Omar and the president of the winning club Mohamed
Doualeh .
With this win, Djibouti Telecom has booked their place in the upcoming
CECAFA Kagame Club Cup due in Tanzania in July this year.
Despite being Djibouti’s champions for years, the team’s performance at last year’s CECAFA club cub was too slow, but its authorities are now saying they
have made major changes and are hopeful to show some progress in the
upcoming CECAFA event.
