Djiboutian Armed Forces women’s football Club [FAD] has been crowned
national champions for the second year in a row during a ceremony held at
the National Technical centre Sunday.
FAD FC humiliated Cheik Moussa FC 4-0 in their last match which attracted
thousands of spectators although their league title was already confirmed
last week when they thrashed the National police team 3-0.
Most of the girls who represented Djibouti in the 2015 Pan Arab women’s
youth football tournament in Doha and made Djibouti’s first major international approach when they lost 1-0 to Lebanon in the final are now playing for the military team and with having those talented girls the team had massively dominated the whole 10-team women’s league.
They include Djibouti’s main scorers Mazer Fouad Abdallah and Fahima Mahmoud Ahmed.
President Souleiman Hassan Waberi who was elected Djibouti Football Federation president on 10th of November 2012 revived the country’s national female league in 2013-2014 Season.
The military team who finished 2nd place in the first women’s football
league, made more progress to lift the trophies for seasons 2014-2015 and
2015-2016 which came to an end on Sunday.
“I am very grateful to our president Souleiman Hassan Waberi for his
efforts to make our women’s football alive after years of absence” said
National women’s team head coach Fadumo Moousa Dirie, who trained and lead Djiboutian U 17 female team to the 2015 Pan Arab women’s tourney adding
she was very proud that the girls she once trained are now key players in
the women’s national football league.
