Gor Mahia have their work cut out this afternoon when they clash with Rwanda giants APR in a must win clash in the ongoing Cecafa Kagame cup.
Though Gor Mahia’s coach Bobby Willimason thinks the team is not badly off as everyone thinks he knows well it will be a tough task facing a strong APR team playing at home buoyed with massive home support.
The Kenyan premier league defending champions Gor Mahia are yet to win a game at the ongoing CECAFA Kagame Cup after losses to KCCA of Uganda and Burundi’s Atletico but the Scottish tactician insists that his side is good enough to make it to the quarterfinals.
Gor Mahia takes on Rwandan giants APR in their third game of the regional competition on Friday evening eyeing victory as anything short of that will see them back to Nairobi on Monday to work on defending their 2013 league title .
“Today, we are going to show everyone that we are good enough. We want to win so that we can create a good atmosphere for our next game (against Telecom) on Sunday,” said the positive Williamson.
Gor Mahia is at the bottom of Group B and two wins in their remaining two games against APR and Djibouti’s Telecom will grant them a slot in the quarterfinals. The top three sides will make it to the last eight.
Williamson will be relying on Ugandan striker Dan Sserunkuma to find the back of the net to avoid a third consecutive loss on their first appearance at the tournament since 1996.
Gor Mahia has lifted the CECAFA title thrice in 1980, 1981 and 1985 but is yet to replicate that form at this year’s event in Kigali.
